Welcoming Warmth at Wickson

It snowed today. First the evenings got dark, then the leaves completed their final descent from the branches, then the fat, wet flakes lightly coated the ground as I slept. I am never quite ready for the first snow of the season, but each year it brings me back to the indoor activities that I forgot that I enjoy, like making homemade chicken pot pie and wrapping up in a blanket for a relaxing night in.

And while I am usually quite active during the cold Michigan winters, often walking, hiking, and riding my fat-tire bike on snowy trails, I much prefer the warmth of the indoors. So, if you, like me, enjoy staying warm while still having fun, then Wickson is the place for you and your family this November.

Opportunities for kids, tweens, and teens seem to grow each month, and November is no different. Every Tuesday at 3:15 the library welcomes school-aged children to Unplug and Play in the Community Room. This Tuesday the 11th is watercolor painting, the 18th is marble runs and games, and the 25th offers turkey crafts, just in time for Thanksgiving. Then, on Thursdays, teens and tweens can drop in for Try This Thursday for opportunities to undertake something new. Thanksgiving treats are on the schedule for the 13th and on the 20th, you can design your own bookmark, all of which will keep busy fingers toasty.

Kids of all ages, including adults, can also come into Wickson to play one of the 80+ board games in their collection. Not only can you stay warm, but you can also enjoy time with friends and family, sharpen your language and focus skills, enhance your teamwork abilities, and likely have a good laugh while you’re at it.

For the youngest library patrons, Story Time continues on Mondays and Tuesdays. This week’s book is How to Babysit a Grandpa by Jean Reagan. Stop in and keep all those little toes and fingers snug while reading and playing with Mrs. Emmons.

But cozy fun isn’t only for the younger crowd – adults can find friendly warmth during the daylight hours and after dark. Twilight Trivia is happening on Tuesday the 11th at 6 pm to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Twilight book series by Stephenie Meyer. There are still a few spots open, so call the library to secure your reservation and have a chance to display your knowledge and win some fun prizes. And this Friday the 14th at 11 am, Jen is hosting Christmas crafting for the Friday Arts & Crafts series. This month, in preparation for the upcoming holiday season, you will have the chance to make Gumdrop Trees. Stop in or call the library to register.

And, for families, on Saturday the 15th Wickson is hosting a free 'Keepy Uppy' Family Play Day from 10 am – 2 pm, inspired by the kids tv show Bluey. Families can drop in anytime to

enjoy Bluey-inspired activities, games, and stories. There will even be a special character meet-and-greet!

As you can see, the library is ready with a multitude of activities for everyone to enjoy regardless of the chilly weather, so come join the fun at Wickson while you stay warm and dry this November.
