Snow Much to Do: January Events at the Library

As reflections on the past year fade, the early days of the new year often lead us to look ahead, to plan, to wonder, to anticipate. Many people expand on that and resolve to do certain things – eat more vegetables, read more books, or learn a new skill. Personally, I look for opportunities, and fortunately Wickson makes it easy to find plenty of these in 2026.

For those who prefer to avoid the snowy roads, Wickson is offering three virtual author talks in January. First is David Brooks with The Creative and Compassionate Art of Seeing Others Deeply on the 12th. On the 20th will be journalist Julia Hotz with Nature, Art, and Service as Medicine. And Liz Moore, author of God of the Woods, will be featured on the 28th with Secrets and Second Chances. You can find more details and register in the Digital Services section of Wickson’s website.

History lovers might enjoy the special Lecture Series with Dr. Nathan Seeley that begins on Monday, January 12th with Boston: The Cradle of Liberty. This will be the first in a series of four events with Dr. Seeley to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the United States this year. All programs begin at 6:00 pm at the library.

Wickson is also adding something new to their list of special programs for patrons. Memory Care Café will take place on the last Wednesday of every month at 10:00 am, beginning January 28th. This relaxed, informal social time will offer snacks, activities and conversation for those with memory difficulties and their caregivers.

And if you love movies, you are in for a treat! For only $5 you can attend a 1:30 matinee showing at the Bronner Performing Arts Center. The first showing, Top Gun, will be January 16th, and tickets can be purchased at the Frankenmuth Parks & Recreation office, the Frankenmuth School District Office, at the library, and at the door.

Additionally, to recognize Braille Literacy month this January, Wickson will be hosting the Netflix Limited Series of All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. Those over age 18 can register to join the four Monday sessions, from 12:30 – 2:30 at Wickson, to watch an episode, then participate in discussion and braille-related activities. This series begins January 5th and runs through February 2nd.

And finally, reading! January and February are ideal months to stay inside, get cozy, and read books. So, if you love reading and are perhaps inspired by a little challenge, join Wickson’s Winter Reading Challenge for adults. It runs from January 1 – February 28, and you can win an exclusive enamel bear pin for your efforts. Stop by Wickson to sign up and grab your reading log so you can begin the challenge.

So, as we begin this first full week of January 2026, remember all the new events and ideas to keep you busy and warm at Frankenmuth Wickson District Library!
