Love is in the air this week as many of us celebrate Valentine’s Day. Whether you’re celebrating with a loved one, boycotting the Hallmark holiday for Galentine’s Day, or staying in by yourself, the library has the perfect companion for you. Like we always say, “Reading is magic when you find the right book.” In addition to it being Black History Month, February is also National Library Lovers Month! We’re dedicating the entire month to celebrating libraries, librarians, books, and book lovers. Afterall, there’s so much to love about our library. Wickson Library hosts a wide variety of events and activities that are available to the public. The library has recently opened its doors for activities ranging from cooking, coding, and crafting to Mah Jongg, gardening, ukulele strum-alongs, Nerf Wars, and Stuffy Sleepovers. Additionally, there are weekly and monthly events for all ages including story times, after school programming for tweens and teens, and book clubs. For the most up-to-date calendar of events, head over to the library’s website and click on the Calendar tab.
One of the things I love most about our library are the author visits, which afford a unique opportunity for patrons to speak with and get to know real-life authors. I’m also a big fan of the Michigan Notable Book Club, which meets 3-4 times per year and highlights a newly published Michigan author. On Wednesday, April 12 from 6-7pm the library is hosting the next Michigan Notable Book Discussion featuring the book Scarlet in Blue by Jennifer Murphy. The book is part mystery, part coming-of-age story, and part tragedy. The story traces the lives of a mother and daughter who share a dependence and love so strong neither can imagine life without the other. We’d love for you to join us! Beyond programming and events, the library offers much more than books. Your library card also gives you access to puzzles, laptops, literacy kits, gnome adventure kits DVD’s, sewing machines, and so much more. This month we asked our Facebook followers what they like about the library, and when the responses came in, we felt the love!
“Each time I walk in, there's something new to see, do, or read. It's such a great place to be, and the friendly staff is the cherry on top!” – Amy Stickney Culver
“I love that our library is so very inclusive and accessible to all. I love that we have so many different free classes and events for kids and adults. Oh, and I love the staff!” – Lauren Masud Visuri

“I love all of you! You always greet us with a smile and remember our names. You make us feel special every time we come in! My grandkids think it’s their own library! That says a lot! You’re all an amazing part of my family and village!” – Shelly Armock What about you? What do you love about your library? The Books We Love & Love Your Library displays are up this week with an interactive space for you to fill out a Valentine for the Wickson Library Team. And while we’re all sharing, we’re grateful for you too!
