Join the Fun for Adults at the Library This Summer!

I have an important announcement for all of the 18+ folks out there who are reading this right now – Wickson’s Summer Reading Program is not just for kids; it is for ADULTS! Of course it is for all ages, but there are special activities and challenges for adults this summer, too. Even if you don’t consider yourself a big reader, you can enjoy many adult events at the library through this July and August. Here are some great reasons to join Wickson Library’s Adult Summer Reading Program:

You can win prizes – If you sign up for the Color Our World Scavenger Hunt, you can win great things from Frankenmuth True Value like a gallon of paint (which is worth a lot more than you might think), a wind chime and an Adirondack chair. Really nice prizes for getting out and about to enjoy Frankenmuth this summer!

You can grow – Do you have a green thumb or just enjoy plants and flowers? Join the Dozens of Dahlias contest and submit pictures of your beautiful Dahlias to win titles like Best Single Bloom or Most Unique Color.

You can unleash your creativity – Stick figures? Paint-by-number? Acrylics? Water colors? No matter your medium or skill level, drop in to the library and pick up a mini-canvas to adorn with any colors and designs you like, no art degree required. These colorful creations will be displayed at a community art exhibition during the last two weeks of August.

You can learn new things – Register for one or more of the activities available for adults and learn to knit or crochet a granny square, share recipes and food, make a needle-felted rainbow garland, and learn more about Frankenmuth during WW II from Dr. Nathan Seeley. You can also drop in to one of the many books clubs and share your thoughts about the intriguing books the clubs have chosen.

You can win MORE prizes – All you have to do is sign up and read! Write down all the books you read on the colorful form Wickson has ready for you. You can win prizes for having read five, ten, and 20 books. And, when you turn in your completed book log, you will be entered into a drawing to win even bigger prizes.

So, if prizes and growth and learning and fun with color are not enough reasons for all of the adults out there to head over to Wickson and sign up right away, here are a few more details to help get you headed in the right direction. The last day to register is July 7th, and the last day to hand in your reading logs is August 16th. To register or learn more about any of the programs, visit wicksonlibrary.org, call 989-652-8323, or stop by the library at 359 S. Franklin Street, Frankenmuth, MI. You can also follow Wickson on Facebook & Instagram.

On May 31st, when the program kicked off, 1100 people attended, which is spectacular! Let’s see if we can keep the energy going. I am signed up and would love for more adults to join the adventure of Wickson’s Summer Reading Program: Color Our World.
