Communication Librarian - Part Time
Job Summary:
The Communication Librarian plays a dual role within the Frankenmuth Wickson District Library, serving both as a front-line public service librarian and as the library's primary marketing and communications coordinator. This position supports traditional library functions at the circulation desk while also creating and managing digital and print content to promote library services, events, and collections across multiple platforms.
Primary Responsibilities:
All duties listed under Librarian I, including but not limited to:
- Greet and assist patrons with library services and resources
- Circulation of library materials
- Assisting with technology and public computer usage
- Processing new materials
- Supervising library pages
- Maintaining a clean and welcoming environment
- Participating in library programs and staff meetings
Additional Communication & Marketing Responsibilities:
- Create engaging digital content for library social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and explore new platforms to expand outreach
- Prepare and distribute a regular e-newsletter (monthly or bi-monthly) and Library Blog
- Design promotional materials such as flyers, posters, and brochures for library programs and services
- Maintain and regularly update content on the library website
- Draft press releases, media alerts, and other public communications as needed
- Collaborate with staff to develop strategic marketing plans that highlight collections, services, and events
- Ensure branding consistency across all communication platforms
- Take photos and/or video at events for promotional use
- Creates signage for displays at the library and outreach sites
- Update the Frankenmuth Living Community Calendar with library events
- Maintains indoor and outdoor bulletin board and library outside sign
Requirements:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and familiarity with digital tools such as Canva, Mailchimp, and Wix (or similar platforms)
- Experience with or willingness to learn social media management and digital marketing strategies
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Flexibility and adaptability in a changing work environment
- Strong commitment to public service and community engagement
- Customer service experience and a friendly, professional demeanor
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED required
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, library science, or a related field preferred
- Experience in a library, communications, or marketing role preferred
Schedule and Compensation:
- Part-time position with approximately 20 hours per week
- One evening shift per week required, Tuesday Evenings 2pm to 7pm, other evenings may be required for events.
- Starting pay range: $15-16/hour, depending on experience and qualifications
