Librarian I - Part Time

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Library Director and Assistant Director, a Librarian I is responsible for the assisting with the administration and organization of the library.  This position includes heavy interaction with the public, moderate use of technology, organization and filing, physical mobility. 

Primary duties:

  1. Greet all patrons in a friendly and courteous manner in order to facilitate a welcoming environment in the library.

  2. Check in/out library materials to patrons

  3. Assist patrons in locating and selecting materials using library catalog

  4. Assist patrons accessing and utilizing the library’s computers and online resources

  5. Assist patrons with library services such as but not limited to: copier, faxing, and scanning

  6. Assist with processing new materials purchased by library

  7. Promote library activities and services to patrons

  8. Welcome new patrons and issue library cards

  9. Receive money from patrons for fines, copies, ongoing book sale, and other income sources

  10. Effectively handle difficult patrons with good customer services

  11. Contact patrons about overdue and reserved items

  12. Identify materials in need of repair or replacement.

  13. Empty external book drop as needed

  14. Assist with special programs/projects as needed for the daily operation

  15. Attend staff meetings/trainings

  16. Maintain a clean library environment

  17. Opening and closing of library responsibilities

  18. Supervise Library pages and provide instruction as needed.

  19. Other duties not listed may be assigned on an as needed basis

 

Requirements:

  • Excellent computer, work-processing and internet skills

  • Organizational and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion

  • Strong commitment to public service

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and public service skills

  • Ability to communicate well with patrons and staff

  • Ability to maintain reliable schedule and regular attendance

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work situations

 

Experience and Training:

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Graduation from a college or university preferred

  • Library experience preferred

 

Additional Information:

Applicant must be available to fill the following shifts:

            Monday 9 am – 4 pm

            Tuesday 3pm -7pm

            Friday 12pm – 5pm

Pay Range $12-$15.00/hour
